Urban Photography
A presentation by Roger Bracewell ARPS
‘Urban Photography’ covers a range of subject areas including urban landscapes, architecture, street and documentary photography.
Working across these genres, Roger’s aim is to capture the essence, diversity and dynamism of urban environments – whilst offering a social commentary or reflection on our urban lives.
He will introduce the key themes that enable us to communicate a feeling or idea and develop a unique personal style. He will also consider the work of other urban artists and photographers who we can look to for inspiration.
Using examples close to home – in Bristol and Cheltenham – Roger will demonstrate that urban images can do more than simply provide a visual illustration of a location or place.
As we shift our focus from more general urban scenes and cityscapes to individual buildings and structures we are drawn by geometry, shapes, lines and curves, abstracts, textures and details.
Roger has always described himself as a geographer – and first qualified with a degree in Town & Country Planning before spending most of his professional life working as an IT consultant.
These interests have driven a passion for photographing people and places and sharing his images, knowledge and expertise with all those around him.
He became an Associate of The Royal Photographic Society in 2024 and was awarded a Distinction in Landscape following the successful submission of a panel of black & white mountain images.
