Brian Champion

Bio:My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic, which as a teenager initially sparked my interest in photography, but this spark didn’t ignite a flame – so it was not really until my late 20’s that I “got into” B&W film photography, taking an evening class in Camden Town which introduced me to darkroom techniques which I much later put into practice when I had a spare room to convert – but then family arrived and the darkroom became a nursery! Other than family snaps, the hobby then became dormant for a long period until work led me to move to La Jolla, California leaving the family behind for 3+ years – a challenging time but I was able to take a number of photography classes and have been “hooked” ever since. And now in retirement I finally have time to commit again.

Equipment:
Nikon Z5 II mirrorless camera with 24-200mm, 105mm Macro and 16-35mm as main lenses. MacBook Pro with Photoshop and Topaz as main processing tools.

Interests:
Although I do take a range of image types, I would probably best describe my primary interest as “Observational Photography”, as per Colin Walls. Outside of photography, my interests include cooking and continuing to keep up as best I can with my scientific field of immunology and its application to developing new treatments.
