For the first time in the Club’s history, a selection of members’ images were pitched in a photographic Battle against a Camera Club on the other side of the globe. Bathurst Camera Club, New South Wales took up the challenge in a great spirit of friendship and all feel that this is going to become an annual event after an extremely enjoyable and interesting event. Bathurst NSW is informally twinned with Cirencester because ancestors of the present Earl Bathurst travelled to Australia in the 19th century and named the settlement which is now a thriving city of more than 50,000 people.
The battle took place on Monday August 9th (in the morning UK time and for the Australians it was their Camera Cub meeting time), and all forty images were closely scrutinised, commented on and marked by renowned British judge Chris Palmer. Cirencester Camera Club won the Battle this time, but it’s pretty definite there will be a return match next year!
